Summer Term 2011
Welcome Back!
Welcome back everyone, we hope you all had a great Easter break and enjoyed your Easter eggs!
Closures
Just to remind you that Pre-School will be closed on the following dates: Thursday 5th May 2011 – Polling day (the parish room is required for this event!).
Friday 17th June – 'Royal wedding' (we know this isn't the wedding day – but it is our bank holiday entitlement!!)
Monday 20th June is a inset day.
Fly on the wall
Later this term we will be holding our fly on the wall sessions - dates to follow. For anyone who does not know what this is – it is a chance for you to come into pre-school for half a session and sit and observe your child at play! A timetable will be up on the pre-school room door in the near future.
School start dates
Several parents have asked us if their child needs to begin their school life so early, due to the fact that there is now only one school intake in September. Please be aware that should you wish to do so, you do have the option to continue to bring your child to pre-school until the term after their 5th birthday. All children in nursery, pre-school or in reception class at school should be 'educated' following the 'Early Years Foundation Stage.' If you have any questions or queries regarding any aspect of this please see Tracie or Helen.
Red Nose Day
A massive 'Thank You' to everyone who contributed to this charity. We raised £113.84, 2 euro's and 25 cents all of which went to comic relief. Well done everyone!
Tors Sports
On Friday 6th May, Andrea Kemp is delivering a 20-30 minute 'sports morning.' This will be on the lawn of the old vicarage, (usual time & weather permitting), Sounds like it will be good fun!
Parent/carer dishes rota
We are hoping to organise a dish-washing rota. If any parents/carers would like to volunteer we would be very grateful for your help. It would only be for around 15 minutes (from 12pm -12.15pm) just to wash the dishes in the coffee bar area. Thank you!
Water bottles
Would you please put your child's name on their water bottles – it's a great help to us when we have several bottles which are the same! If you forget to being your child's drink in – don't worry we always have a jug of water and mugs out too!
Topic
Our topic for this term will be 'Animals'. We will be looking at domestic animals, wild and farm animals, zoo animals and sea life. We will be investigating their habitats, and their food preferences, and also how the vet's look after them and why. We are also hoping to have 'The animal man' come into pre-school – more information to follow!
Letter of the week
All the children are enjoying and engaging with our 'letter of the week.' We have many interesting item's bought in for show and tell which start with the letter... some are incredibly imaginative and totally accurate! Week commencing 3 May we will be up to the letter 'H' 'h.'
Coats and bags
We hope the collection of coats and bags is working well. Please let us know if there are any problems.
Nursery Rhymes
There is now a folder of nursery rhymes in the 'quite room' (along with everything else!). Please feel free to take a look and photocopy any you feel you and your child may enjoy. If you have any you would like to add to the folder for others to enjoy, then please do so .Inside the folder, it shows how nursery rhymes link up with the six areas of learning, and how these rhymes can be used to enhance your child's creativity in every aspect. We hope you enjoy looking through it!
Start and finish times
Can we please ask that children are collected from pre-school promptly. We understand that there are times when things go wrong, which make us all late occasionally. However, if we are late vacating the playroom we also incur extra hire charges! Thank you for your cooperation.
Dressing-up clothes
Would you be able to spare the time to take some of the dressing up clothes home and wash them for us? At the moment it costs us £5 to wash the clothes and another £5 to tumble dry them! We would prefer to use this money on resources for the children! Thank you
And finally ...
Well done to Sadie who has recently completed her two- year NVQ3 course.
This means that we have three staff who are qualified to NVQ level 3, one who is qualified to level 2 and the fifth member of the team is working towards NVQ level 2.
