Purpose and aims of the Early Years Foundation Stage

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right, and provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework that provides this.

Below lists the education programme we follow for each area of learning:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Children are provided with experiences and support to help develop a positive sense of themselves and others, social skills and a positive disposition to learn.

Communication, Language and Literacy

Children's learning and competence in communicating, speaking and listening, being read to and beginning to read and write is supported and extended.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

Children are provided with opportunities to practise and extend their skills in this area and to gain confidence and competence in their use.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Children are supported to help them make sense of the world. They are offered opportunities to use a range of tools safely, encounter creatures, people, plants and objects in their natural environments and real-life situations, undertake practical 'experiments' and work with a range of materials.

Physical Development

The physical development is encouraged through opportunities for them to be active and interactive and to improve their skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. They are supported in using all of their senses to learn about the world around them and to make connections between new information and what they already know. They are supported in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity and healthy choices in relation to food.

Creative Development

Children are provided with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-play activities, mathematics and design and technology.
